Rewards for Reporting
close thread if another has been made like it
Just came up with an idea that if players help benefit a cause to a (legit) violation such as botting (with proof) that they get rewarded. this way more people would frown upon botting, foul language, leeching etc knowing that people are on the look out for rewards much like a bounty. the reward varies on the severity of the violation. now i see no reason to not say yes to such an idea as we all hate botters in the Luxon JQ (mesmers that always go yellow and attack ranger shrine first then DIE). so why not give the palyers a lil push to help their fellow gamers out?
thoughts?

No.
Support is already nearly incapable of distinguishing right from wrong. Why exacerbate the problem?

i think with the correct proof its completely able. such as a screenshot. so...dont be a downer . if it encourages players to keep their gaming community clean so be it. surely theres an arenanet user on here to see this? im sure they'd love the extra help

The reward is a better gameplay experience. Isn't that enough?

This could end with an entire guild reporting someone for the same reason, thus ending with a so called: "correct report" and then they all would get rewarded for it...

iirc Anet is obliged to not read this forum for legal reasons.
As to the idea, /notsigned. If there are rewards for something, people will be dumb about it and report anything vaguely related to something that might be bannable. Swearing once or twice is fine, but there would be people jumping all over you for doing it if there were rewards. Anet doesn't have the personnel to sort out the emails that do come in in a timely manner, flooding them with rubbish reports isn't going to help.
PS: If you want to report someone properly, with lots of screenshots and other proof, you're welcome to email ANet. The reward for getting rid of bots and bad people is a better community. Don't ask for more.

There is not proof that you can't falsify.
The only thing that will happen is having an army of people reporting other people (most of them if not all of them with fake screenshots, movies) just to get the rewards.
The idea is good as long as people don't start to abuse it, and because of the rewards I kinda bet they will start to abuse it.
I don't think u can prove to much with a single screenshot...

Ok someone scamming or goldselling, botting, rasism and simple harassing is up for a report as far as I'm concerned, but.....
With the upcoming reward system I'd be up for reporting: guild spam, inapropriate names(you know who you are (: ), laggy persons in pvp, asking for finale hats, WTS AFK for partysearch spam, other languages that fill what is now MEIN district, people wearing unmatching armor, people using CAPS, wearing green alltogether, asking dumb stuff that you can find on the wiki, polluting chat with chit chat.
Where's my reward? I done good did I?

Why bother? Anet doesn't deal with reports anyway. Bots? Scammers? Griefers? Anet really doesn't care. They created the report feature so their email was no longer flooded. Just ignore it. Run a bot of your own. Do whatever. Anet has rolled all of it's future hopes into gw2. They must pray it doesn't tank or their company is dead. As long as their attention is diverted,(forever) they really won't respond to reporting. Notice the in-game message about botters banned? When was the last time it was updated? Exactly, it hasn't. They will maintain their EULA by smokescreen.

I could see this being so abused and people being report happy because they think it'd earn them some gold or something. Support would have so many more false reports to sift through than they currently do, more people would get wrongfully banned and QQ on here... Just no.
If you need a reward to report someone, you need to question why you're reporting them in the first place.

While youre at it, screenshot me while im in lions arch moving to and from the merchant and storage by double clicking their names. As long as i dont stop and say anything you have a bot report.
People grief report people they dont like or suck in PvP even without reward, imagine adding a reward? The community isnt smart enough to handle anything you give them properly.

This has got to be the stupidest suggestion ever.
NCsoft's support is already flawed to the Nth degree, now your suggesting people ought to be rewarded for closing other people's accounts, given NCsoft's lackluster bureaucracy in terms of account management?!
Last time I checked the player is rewarded for playing the game, and reporting was a community effort to make sure bots / hacks / w/e were kept under control.

Take a minute, breathe deeply, and think about the idea you posted.
In that one minute of coherent thought, surely you came up with more reasons why its a bad idea than why its a good idea.

Sorry but this is just a bad idea. I`ve supplied Anet with the names of 24 bots on the Lux side in JQ....Anet managed to discern just ONE was a bot the rest are still there. Screenshots are pointless because they capture a split second of action ingame, which proves nothing. Ive submitted screenshots of me pm`ing the bots in a variety of languages asking for a response or i`ll report them, that was no good.
I`ve submitted gamecam footage of bots in action, as yet 3 weeks later i`m still waiting to hear back from support, no doubt due to christmas and new year getting in the way
Anets detection systems just aren`t up to scratch , the only way they`ll get rid of them is for a dedicated team of mods to physically oversee matches and watch the bots in action.
